So rather than the usual B2B campaign where they turn a struggling business around, we went big: transforming a forgotten island off the coast of Ireland.

How can a mobile company help an island on the brink of extinction?

Arranmore had been left off the Irish government’s national broadband plan, leading to massive emigration that would soon leave the island uninhabited.

So Three made Arranmore the first place in Ireland with 5G, then used the network to revitalise fishing, healthcare and education on the island.

We then declared the island officially open for business with a big PR moment: an open letter inviting people around the world to relocate there – picking up two Cannes Lions and a Wooden Pencil in the process.
